Tanya Erin Paoli Interview
Disclaimer: Yes, I'm a producer of FLOWERS and I'm well aware that it may seem inappropriate to present these interviews as an objective dialogue. I'm located a thousand miles from Philadelphia, PA where the film was shot and I've never met anyone involved in the production. Each of these interviews were the first contact I ever had with any of them. It was my idea to simultaneously "meet" them under this pretext and to help promote the movie with exclusive content for this website.
"Flower #4" from the Between-the-Walls segment of FLOWERS, actress Tanya Paoli speaks with editor Ronnie Sortor:
Ronnie Sortor: What’s your favorite movie?
Tanya Paoli: I don't have just one, but one of them is "Painted skin: The Resurrection"
R.S. How did you get involved with FLOWERS?
T.P. I worked with Makaria rehearsing for a movie for about a year (it was called The Barbecue), and we became friends. I saw some of the artwork and posts for FLOWERS online and let Phil know if he needed any more actors that I was interested. Makaria had seen me rehearse so many times so I think she knew I'd be right for the part as well.
R.S. Have you worked on other movies before or since?
T.P. Yes, I worked on "Mortal" which is supposed to be out this year. Mortal was the first movie I've been in. The filmmaker is Kat Lehmer. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mortal-Vampire-Movie/178441615541657 I play the part of Ava. She is a ghost who haunts vampires. I had small roles in two Mark Mackner films which have a Troma style.
R.S. I gotta tell ya, your Between-the-Walls segment was the easiest one to edit! For all the others, Phil had numerous suggestions and changes requested. Not yours! Phil was absolutely blown-away and satisfied with your segment immediately way back in the rough-cut phase. I have to attribute much of this to excellent planning for the scene. Was there a lot of rehearsal?
T.P. Actually, no! I rehearsed that scene once which was before the set was built so it was all in my imagination while rehearsing it the one time before we filmed. The set was so well-built it made it easy to get into the right state of mind and into character.
R.S. Your character got roughed up quite a bit. Any injuries on-set?
T.P. I remember having bruises all over my legs and arms after that night, but I had a feeling it was worth it, and I'm tougher than I look.
R.S. You still keep in touch with the other FLOWERS girls, right? I get the impression you're a pretty tight-knit group.
T.P. I wouldn't say we are a tight knit group. I only met everyone a couple times. I lived farther away than everyone else, and have been traveling for a few months. However, Anastasia Blue joined me at Burning Man and it was amazing!
I also keep in touch with Makaria sometimes, but I find myself to be a lone...cat..who sometimes likes to hang with wolves.
R.S. Do you have any stories from the FLOWERS set that the readers may be interested in?
T.P. Yes, FLOWERS is to me...kind of like a nightmare.. I remember before getting to see this movie, and even before filming having dreams of being in this movie. Then when I actually got to see it.. the movie was just like the dream. I remember while we were working on different scenes it actually feeling real to me.
R.S. Last questions: What's next for you? Are there any other movies that you're working on?
T.P. I'm actually putting together a a compilation of things I wrote as a book, and planning to work on making a film. I do a lot of crafting, writing, and music playing. I intend to to more alternative modeling in nature, and heading to Burning Man once again. I like to move faster than the speed of light and just keep being productive. I have been traveling a lot the past few months so I haven't found a project I'm into, but I intend to see what the Independent film scene is like on the west coast.
