FLOWERS Cast Interviews
Disclaimer: Yes, I'm a producer of FLOWERS and I'm well aware that it may seem inappropriate to present these interviews as an objective dialogue. I'm located a thousand miles from Philadelphia, PA where the film was shot and I've never met anyone involved in the production. Each of these interviews were the first contact I ever had with any of them. It was my idea to simultaneously "meet" them under this pretext and to help promote the movie with exclusive content for this website.
Krystle Fitch Interview
Ronnie Sortor January 2015
First up was "Flower #2" from the Crawlspace segment. Ladies & gents, Krystle Fitch!
Ronnie Sortor: Everyone's gonna get the same icebreaker question: What's your favorite movie?
Krystle Fitch: Hardest question EVER!.... probably HELLRAISER, or EVENT HORIZON
R.S. How'd you get involved w/ FLOWERS?
K.F. A few years back Phil got ahold of me for a different film that he was working on. But that one never panned out. FLOWERS was just an idea at the time, and he had asked me to be a part of it. I was with FLOWERS while it was still a baby.
R.S. You did some fx too, right?
K.F. Yes sir.. ok, so funny story on how I got started into the makeup.. I used to work at Halloween Adventure one year. My daughter used to watch movies with me all of the time. I mainly watch horror movies and she would get so scared from them but she would force herself to try to watch because I was..
So I went to work one day and got all of the stuff to do the gore makeup, sat her down and did, I think a Chelsea's grin, just so she can see that it wasn't real.
So in all, my daughter got me into the makeup! This was the first time that I have ever "acted"
R.S. Any thoughts of a 2nd or 3rd time acting? Or would you rather do more make-up?
K.F. I would love to do makeup again. I liked both parts. ..as long as I'm not crawling through top soil for hours.. I'm ok with acting again.
R.S. I take it the crawlspace scene wasn't a lot of fun. Phil said that dirt shredded your knees. Ouch!
K.F. That topsoil fucked me up. I had cuts all over my knees and thighs. I had it in places that I never want to have topsoil again!
R.S. I love this pic... How much fun was that day?
K.F. omg! phil was just telling me about this pic the other day. hahaha Looks like I just went through the messiest birth ever! That pic was from the exile scene. To have six girls act dead all at the same time was soo funny, especially since most of us are smart asses. One of us always had something ridiculous to say and I had to sit like that and wait for the shower to open up... cause once that fake blood dried, it was super sticky.. and I'm a big girl. I wasn't lucky enough to have that gap between my legs.. so they kept sticking together.
I'm so posting that pic too.... haha. too funny!
R.S. Phil said his original intention was for everyone to be nude throughout. Who talked him out of that?
K.F. I don't remember who talked him out of that, but I know I was so relieved that someone did.. I remember going through the auditions and a lot of girls weren't comfortable with it. But I ended up being naked for a scene anyway. I feel like I should get some kind of award, or a prize for dealing with all of the scenes that involved penises! I was talking to my friend Nick about the movie after I watched it, telling him how my boobs are all over that thing. He said that only my tits are gonna be famous. That would be my luck. hahaha
I feel like my boobs should be in the credits also. But even with clothes on, my scene (crawling through the dirt) fucking sucked.. I don't even want to imagine what it would have been like without the dress!
R.S. There are brief glimpses of hardcore porn on TV screens in a couple of scenes, one during your sex scene. Of course, the inferrence could be that those private parts are yours and your co-star's! What was your reaction to that moment?
K.F. I know that its not us! I don't really care if people think it is, it might be, or it isn't. Lol.
R.S. That's the spirit! Got any FLOWERS anecdotes for me that I may not have seen in the footage?
K.F. One awesome thing that I do want to say about all of the girls and their scenes is that we all could relate to our own characters in one way or another. Whether it be something that we went through, or knew of someone close that was going through something. Whether it be relating metaphorically or physically.. but every girl fit their character perfectly. And to me, that was the absolute beauty of this film and making it. I know that the "viewer" isn't going to see that or even know that..... but it makes me happy knowing that about the film.
The crawlspace scene for me was just my life in general at the time; dead end job, single mother.. everywhere I turned it was a dead end that I ran into head first. At that time I felt like everything was closing in on me. Working on the movie gave me an out. I got to get away and leave my personal life at the door when I went to do filming and makeup.
One of my favorites was the hooker scene. After it was finished shooting, my co-star and I were sitting drinking coffee.. and making fun of the OBVIOUSLY weird situation that we just came out of. While we were bullshitting, we were just like, "this is how best friends are made, fake fucking and coffee afterwards" That was one of the strangest days of my life. And we tried to keep some clothes on... but there was no way of doing that... so after was almost "walk of shame"ish. It really was a lot of fun working on this movie, even when the cameras were off.
