Bits-N-Pieces Update
This has to be a record, two blogs in a week!
"Bits-N-Pieces" is done! The premiere at Studio 2060 was a hit! Around thirty people showed up to see it and they all gave the film thumbs-up. Madison received plenty of kudos and congrats.
There's nothing like watching your own movie with an audience for the first time. You get to vicariously experience their objective perspective and there's a weird energy to be absorbed from it. It was a really fun experience, a great day! Lily took this pic of the audience in the studio's big makeshift screening room.
This is where we're planning to have the screenings for out Grindhouse Film Festival. They've done literally tons of work getting that place built and there's still more to do. The "Bits-N-Pieces" premiere was the accomplishment of a major goal for the Strain family. Their first Studio 2060 production 100% completed! After so much hard work, it was a joy to finally present the fruits of their labor and bask in the satisfaction of a job well-done. I stayed for the rest of the afternoon with Mike & Lily after everyone else left, talking & laughing; sharing stories and patting each other on the back. Just like the good old days.. :)
As editor and DVD author, it's a good practice to see the movie on various set-ups. So far, I've watched BnP on four different screens: the imac, HD projected in my movie room, projected standard-def at the premiere and on my living room TV. Each display has it's own quirks and I notice little details that need tweaking. Yesterday, I adjusted some minor details, sound levels that were too loud on a couple fx, dark shots that needed a little more exposure and vice-versa, added sound fx here and there, flipped one shot because the screen direction was wrong and did a quick, easy optical effect on one shot. Yeah, I'm OCD. Any film editor worth his or her salt has to be! The upshot is that I can now say that "Bits-N-Pieces" is finished. Complete. Done. Mike and Madison have recorded a commentary track for the DVD and they're gonna shoot some cast interviews this weekend for an additional supplement. They'll deliver everything and I'll make the DVD next week, most likely. Then it'll be off to the replicator and Studio 2060 will have copies available very soon! As promised, here's the teaser trailer:
